Pwnage and the Community

What we do

Pwnage makes it a point to give back, and always has. When we aren't in the build season, we are out helping our communities and spreading the FIRST message. We've been active in our community for over 6 years now, dating back to our early years with only FLL teams.

Pride of the Fox

We demonstrated our robot and team at Pride of the Fox. We had our LEGO table, books, marketing packet, and ways we were helping out in our community. We found this a good time to recruit new members to our Team and the FIRST organization.

Summer Camps

Every year, members of our organization put on a summer camp that teaches science experiments and robotics to K-5th graders, as well as a workshop on building with VEX parts for those in middle school and up. Members of Pwnage acted as teachers for these kids. They learned about fingerprints, crystals, robotics, and got to play at our giant LEGO table.

School Demos

Members of PWNAGE have taken the robots to various high schools around the Fox Valley Area to spread the message of FIRST and to
recruit new members.

DuPage County Fair

Dupage County Fair is a five day event in the summer and attracts tens of thousands of attendees. PWNAGE had robot demonstrations as well hands on activities for all ages including driving robots, open build Lego tables, and FTC robots for the kids to drive.

Fox River Cleanup

Team 2949 PWNAGE volunteers at the Annual Fox River cleanup during the off season. Members walk on the side of the banks of the Fox River and enjoy pulling out things such as refrigerators, washers and, dryers.

School Board

Team 2949 presents at school board meetings to thank them for their continual support and use of facilities. PWNAGE enjoys demonstrating their new robots, and teaching them about our program.

Girl Scouts

Team PWNAGE demonstrated all divisions of FIRST and at a Girl Scout Camp consisting of 125 girl scouts and approximately 50 leaders. The team also distributed information about FIRST and how to become involved.

NIU Stemfest

FIRST team 2949 PWNAGE had a FIRST information booth at STEMfest, hosted by Northern Illinois University (NIU). This event draws 3,000 young people and their parents who are interested in science and technology.

FTC/FLL Regionals

PWNAGE hosts FTC and FLL regionals with Fox Valley Robotics. PWNAGE demos throughout all the day to inspire younger students and to encourage them to continue in FIRST robotics.
